Homestead is a one-doctor practice serving Prairie Ridge and the farm towns around it. Sixty-minute first visits, a phone number that reaches Dr. Halvorsen herself, and prices posted on the wall like a feed store. No insurance middleman between you and your doctor.
Thirty minutes for a follow-up, an hour for your first visit. Enough time to talk about the knee and the thing you almost didn't mention.
Members get Dr. Halvorsen's cell. Call, text, or send a photo of the rash. Most questions get an answer before supper.
One flat monthly fee covers your visits. Labs, x-rays and medications are passed along at our cost, printed on the list before you say yes.
Tuesdays and Thursdays the truck goes out. Farm accidents, homebound folks, a newborn's first check at the kitchen table.
About nine in ten things that walk through the door get handled right here. For the rest, Dr. Halvorsen makes the call to the specialist herself and goes over the plan with you afterward.

June left Antelope County for medical school in Omaha and residency in rural Wyoming, then spent nine years in a hospital-owned clinic seeing twenty-eight patients a day. She came home in 2014 to open Homestead, because she was tired of telling her neighbors she only had seven minutes.
She practices what she calls "full-scope, small-town medicine": she still sets simple fractures, delivers shared prenatal care, sits with hospice families, and knows which gravel roads wash out in April. Her husband runs the family ground; her two kids are somewhere on it.

Meet Dr. Halvorsen, freeDirect primary care means you pay the clinic a flat monthly fee and we don't bill insurance for visits. It costs about what the family spends on cell phones, and it covers nearly everything a family doctor does.
Effective the first of the year · no surprise line items
We don't contract with insurers, which is how a visit stays an hour long. Most families pair a Homestead membership with a high-deductible or catastrophic plan, a health-share, or Medicare.
House calls run Tuesday and Thursday afternoons inside a 35-mile ring of the clinic. Mileage is included for members.

Ask a questionYes. Homestead covers the family-doctor part of your life: visits, most procedures, cheap labs and medications, and a doctor who picks up the phone. It does not cover a hospital stay, surgery or a cancer diagnosis. Most members carry a high-deductible plan, a health-share, or Medicare for those, and find their total spending goes down.
You can. Dr. Halvorsen has opted out of Medicare, which means you'll sign a short private-contract form and Medicare won't be billed for visits at Homestead. Your Medicare still works everywhere else: hospital, specialists, imaging, and prescriptions through Part D.
Members call or text Dr. Halvorsen's cell. She answers herself for anything urgent, and if she's genuinely unreachable, Dr. Pieper in Neligh covers under the same arrangement. For chest pain, stroke symptoms, or a bad farm injury, call 911 first and text us second.
The standing ring is 35 miles from the clinic, which reaches Oakdale, Clearwater and most of the county. Farther than that, call and ask; if the truck's already headed that direction, the answer is usually yes.
That's the whole idea. Family memberships cover two adults and every child under 22 at one address for $150 a month, and grandparents can join under the 65-and-over rate. Some of our families have four generations in the chart.
Dr. Halvorsen makes the referral herself, usually with a phone call to a specialist she knows, and sends your records ahead so the visit isn't spent repeating your history. Afterward, you and she go over what they said, in plain English.
Referrals bill your insurance as usual. We just help you use it well.
